An edict that will compel real estate developers to plant more trees in their residential projects could be in the works in the Philippines, Manila Bulletin reported.
The country’s environment ministry is currently pushing President Rodrigo Duterte to sign an executive order making the planting of trees mandatory for all housing developments.
“An EO is better since it will be an inter-agency effort,” environment undersecretary Demetrio Ignacio told reporters in Manila this week. “We will require tree planting or set up areas for planting of trees in all subdivisions.”
The news comes as the environment ministry delegates the issuance of tree-cutting permits for property projects to its regional, provincial and community offices.
